How to choose a paragliding operator — the 7-question checklist

The operator decision is the biggest safety variable in a tandem flight — more than the site, the weather or the equipment. Most problems trace to operators who shouldn't have been flying that day.

Ask these before booking: Are your pilots APPI or equivalent rated? What wing class do you fly? What's your weather cancellation policy in writing? Is there insurance? How many flights has my pilot logged? Can I see the reserve parachute pack date? What happens if we can't fly?

Operators who answer easily are the ones worth flying with. Hesitation, vague answers or 'we'll see on the day' are your signals to walk.
