Diwali 2026 paragliding: where to fly in India over the festive week
4 November 2026

Shubh Diwali from Paragliding in India. The festival week falls inside one of the best flying months of the year - November 2026 opens with Vasu Baras on Thursday 5th, Dhanteras on Friday 6th, the main Lakshmi Puja on Sunday 8th, Bali Pratipada on Tuesday 10th and Bhau Beej on Wednesday 11th. Panchang timings vary slightly by region, so check yours before locking plans.
The good news for flyers: every site on our seasons calendar is open in November, so the festive week is a genuine flying holiday, not just a plan on paper. Here is how the regions shape up.
West India: Kamshet is the country's easiest festive-week base - about an hour from Pune and around two and a half from Mumbai, with post-monsoon green ridges and smooth morning air. Lonavala and Pawna share the same Sahyadri weather and sit close by for a combined trip. Panchgani's plateau sites give a different flavour of the same season. Weekday slots here are the calm choice when the weekend crowds arrive.
North India: Bir Billing is in season and is the draw for anyone wanting a longer flight or a training visit - mornings are colder up there, so pack a proper layer. Manali flies too, with cold, clear Himalayan mornings and shorter winter days; check the local call before travelling.
South India: Nandi Hills makes an easy morning out of Bangalore, Yelagiri offers relaxed hill flying near the Tamil Nadu border, and Vagamon's meadows in Kerala are open through November - morning slots are the smoothest across the south too.
The hills: Naukuchiatal in Uttarakhand flies in November with lake-and-ridge scenery, and Gangtok in the north-east is open - a longer trip, so plan a few days around the flight rather than a day-dash.
Festive-week realities: family holidays mean busier sites and fuller booking sheets, especially over the Diwali weekend. Book early, prefer weekday and morning slots for the smoothest air, and keep a backup date - the weather call is always made on the day and a festive calendar does not change the wind.
Choosing an operator? Our 7-question operator checklist in the Articles section covers certification, equipment and weather judgement - the things that actually matter. Kamshet-bound flyers can also read our Kamshet 2026 flying season article, and the Seasons calendar and Destinations pages list every open site.
One request as the lights go up: no fireworks or sky lanterns near launch and landing sites or the dry post-monsoon grass around them - they are a real hazard on approach. Diyas over crackers is the calmer, greener way to celebrate, and never pressure a pilot to fly. From all of us, a bright, safe and uplifting Diwali.
