Your first solo flight — what actually happens
30 August 2026

Solo first flight is usually day 5–7 of a P2 course. By then you've done enough ground handling that the mechanics are automatic — the new part is being alone in the air.
The flight itself is deliberately simple: launch, gentle turns along the ridge, land in the marked field. Radio in ear, instructor watching the whole time.
What students get wrong is excitement management — treating the first flight like a performance instead of a procedure. The good ones describe it as 'surprisingly calm'.
After landing comes the debrief — what went right, what needs work. Every pilot remembers their first; the good ones also remember what they were told afterward.
