Getting the footage — photos and video on a tandem flight
The default assumption is a GoPro video add-on. Here's what's actually offered, what it costs, and how to get the best of it.
The standard GoPro add-on
Most tandem operators offer a video package — typically ₹500–₹1,000 — where the pilot mounts a GoPro on a selfie stick and records the flight. You get the footage after landing, usually via WhatsApp or a transfer.
Quality depends on the pilot's camera skills and the light. Morning and evening slots give the best footage — midday sun is harsh and flat.
Bringing your own camera
- GoPro/action cam on a wrist or chest mount — works well if you have one
- Phone in a secured zip pocket — for before/after shots, not in the air
- Selfie sticks are usually operator-provided; personal ones may not be allowed
- Anything dropped from altitude is gone — secure mounts only
Getting better footage
Ask the pilot to do a slow turn toward the scenery during the video pass — most do this naturally, but asking ensures the money shot. Evening slots give golden light over the ridges.
Smile at launch and landing — the candid frames people keep are usually the takeoff expression, not the cruising shots.
