Paragliding is the most weather-dependent adventure sport in common use. The whole calendar question reduces to two things: which months the sites are open, and which hours of the day are actually calm.
India's flying sites run on a post-monsoon/winter logic — the June–September monsoon closes almost everything. Rain and cloud make ridge sites unflyable, and even the gaps between rain are too gusty for passenger flights.
October through February is the premium window: clear skies, stable air, long flyable windows. March to May stays open but thermals strengthen through the day — fine for experienced pilots, rougher for tandem passengers.
Within a flyable day, when you fly shapes the experience more than when in the year. Morning slots (7–10 am) give the smoothest air — cool, stable, gentle. Late afternoon (3–5 pm) is the second window — thermals weakening but evening light.
Mid-day is thermal time — strong, rising air that pilots love and passengers find bumpy. Operators route tandem slots to the calm windows on purpose. If a booking pushes you toward noon, ask why.
Every real operator cancels flights on weather — wind direction off, gusts, clouds too low. A cancelled slot isn't a bad operator; it's one making the right call. Build flexibility into your plan: a backup date or a refundable booking is what separates a good trip from a wasted drive.
The morning-of confirmation call is standard practice at every serious site. It's not indecision — it's that yesterday's forecast doesn't guarantee today's wind.
October and November are peak almost everywhere — post-monsoon air is stable, skies clear and sites fully open. Kamshet flies October–May; Bir Billing October–November and March–May.
No. June to September grounds nearly every Indian site — rain, cloud and unpredictable wind make ridge flying unsafe. Operators close entirely in this window.
