Other Equitements

Helmet:
It’s better to be safe than sorry. Most of the accidents happen during take off, landings and ground handling. You can save your back with harness, hands and legs with protective gears, but the most important part of our body should be saved from impacts with the help of helmet. Helmet should be used all the time, throughout your paragliding activities. Especially during your initial ground handling lessons, the canopy will not be behaving as you want. It may take you for ride on ground as you trip or tumble and may hit ground or stone (at beginning stage you may not know the emergency procedure to control the canopy. The canopy can drag you for kilometers and can be fatal).

Different kinds of helmets are available in the market, like from cycling, horse riding to motorcycle. Cycling helmets are not strong enough to protect, whereas the motorcycle helmets are too heavy and are not suitable for longer flights. In the market helmets specially made for paragliding are available. They are tough, light weight and according to your head size for comfort. A helmet should have good hard shell with inner crushable foam to provide shock absorption.

Shoes & Gloves:
For paragliding, shoes specifically designed without open hooks and good deep grip. They have stiff ankle support so that you reduce the chances of sprain an uneven ground while ground handling, take off and landings. Normal sports shoes can be used during initial lessons but open lacing hooks may catch the paraglider lines.

It is always recommended to use gloves for paragliding as they prevent abrasion to your hands from the risers, lines and provide with better grip. In winters surely gloves save your hands from getting numb.
